Kid-friendly things to do in NYC –
DUMBO edition

As parents we are always looking for kid-friendly things to do in NYC. Some New York neighborhoods have a ton of fun places to visit and explore with kids, so we’ve decided to put together some neighborhood guides. This time it’s all about DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park. Just a quick hop, step and jump across the river and you have landed in a kid’s (and babysitter’s!) dreamland. Along the riverfront there is a constant array of kid-friendly things to do, many of them free. There are casual restaurants and cafes and more ice cream places than we care to mention. This guide really does just scratch the surface and sums up a few of our greatest hits.

Pick your favorite horse and take a ride on Jane’s Carousel. It never fails to impress!

Dock St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Forego the lines at Grimaldi’s and grab an unbelievable delicious pizza at Juliana’s. The kids always love classic margherita but for the grown ups the white pizza with arugula is unreal.

19 Old Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Bring out their inner artist and let the kids get creative with a class at Possum Paint Studio.

55 Washington St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Enjoy a scoop or two of delicious ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and eat it whilst watching the boats come in to the ferry landing.

1 Water St, Brooklyn, 11201

Ride bikes down the Brooklyn Bridge Park Greenway

Pier 1 – Pier 6, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Stop off at the Brooklyn Heights Library for storytimes, kids’ movie screenings, Lego play and more.

(Update January 2017: While a new library building is under construction interim library service and all events are being held at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 109 Remsen St)

Granite Terrace, Pier 3, Brooklyn Bridge Park

And make sure to save some energy at the end of your bike ride to play at the Pier 6 Playground which includes Sandbox Village, Water Lab and Slide Mountain!

Pier 6, Brooklyn Bridge Park

Last but not least, don’t forget to take a wander over Brooklyn Bridge and see how many skyscrapers you can name.
